Thoughts while listening to NGHFB on repeat

Eff man. I love Noel Gallagher’s song writing but it’s so fucking simple. Which is the best and the worst.

It means it’s the funnest to sing-a-long to but going to see him at Massey Hall I was just overwhelmed by the load of dumb men arms clasped around each other in bullish mock British hooliganism bravado and it’s hard not to realize it’s only a few steps above Wheels on the Bus lyricism.

Crowding the rows of Massey Hall was basically every man you would be terrified to see when you’re walking alone at night and they are having the best time, which in my wannabe holier than thou desires makes me shudder. It makes me feel so pedestrian. I suppose that’s important to recognize that feeling though. It’s often how my love of Britpop makes me feel.

I think this is a good first solo album but I really hope he tries a little harder in the next. The simple rhyming scheme makes me feel like he knows there’s so much more he should be expressing. Maybe he’s saving it for the memoir. I think he knows he can do better he’s just afraid the critics will be like “Noel tries to do better and he’s no good at it.” Though, at the same time, when you are a rock star what the fuck are you supposed to write about?

So here’s the deal the beautiful simplicity of his chord progressions can stay but please stop writing “Hold on” and “C’mon” and rhyming ceiling with feeling or dream with record machine.

Anyway I have to close the door to my room because I’ve been listening to Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds on repeat interspersed with youtube videos of Oasis & Noel in concert and I’m afraid of what my roommates will think of me.

He’s just beautiful.
